eTesting Labs Comparison Study Rates Roxio's GoBack Highest Among PC System Restoration Software Tested

Study Highlights GoBack's Advantages Over Microsoft Me System Restore, SecondChance by PowerQuest

MILPITAS, Calif., December 12, 2000 - Roxio, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Adaptec, today announced the release of an eTesting Labs (formerly ZD Labs) comparison study that rates GoBack 2.2 highest among today's newest system restoration and recovery software tested.

According to the published study: "Overall, Roxio's GoBack software completed more tasks with a higher level of flexibility than SecondChance and Windows Me System Restore. GoBack used a variety of additional features to make system and file recovery easier to accomplish."

eTesting Labs devised a rating system to assess each software's ability to restore a system after:

  • deleting a variety of different file types and structures (documents, DLLs, system files, applications and folders).
  • a virus had corrupted the system.
  • a registry change.
  • moving or rearranging folders and files, including application files that were dependent on location.
  • a system failure (power loss) occurred while applications that maintained a disk cache of an opened document were in use. The study also tested each product's ability to restore only changed or corrupted files. Testing on a Windows 98 platform, GoBack scored 10 points to SecondChance's 7. On the Windows Me platform, GoBack scored 10 points to System Restore's 5. The full study can be viewed at
